Way back in 2009,Marking 150 years since Rorkes Drift, I designed a participation game where, for a change the public played the Zulus attacking a British position.
Three years later, we thought it would be fun to take it ti Crisis 2012 in Antwerp. Here are some pictures of the game.
the game set up. Can you see the shields on the table next to the units, They were their movement "sticks" Full shield was for running/ charging & half a shield ie across the shield for any other movement. the British used strips of ammo boxes (this way there is no clutter on the table (tapes & no dice in this game either. all shooting and Melee is done with a normal deck of cards)
Dave and I running the British. Notice the Zulu headbands for the players, Which my Mother made for the game!
Me, explaining the rules. Jim (in the black t-shirt helped run the Zulus)
The game in full swing.
A few close ups
Artillery letting loose
The thin red line
Another view, with the Zulus
On of the Zulu Objectives
We managed 3 games on the day, 7 players on each game, so, quite successful. Two members of the team of five that went on this trip are now deceased. RIP Robert & Big Jim!
