Club Painting Challenge

At Christmas 2020, those ominous dreaded words "lock down" were uttered by the First Minister and the planned day of gaming between Christmas and the New Year was cancelled, one of our club members (may have been me!) suggested a Club painting challenge to start from 23rd December and run until 30th January 2021.

Being a relatively fast painter, I got my figures based, rattle cans of primer and began the challenge. I probably have two advantages over most and they are an understanding wife and not working (I know, understanding wife).

The challenge would be all Napoleonic from the Stash of doom. The grey cabinet in the center is full of unpainted figures, but only my 15mm and 28mm, 6mm and 20mm are in another cabinet. And a few of the draw contents

  15mm ACW

15mm Napoleonic   15mm Ancients

  28mm Medieval and these

In December, I had just finish seventy plus 25mm Rohan Lord of the Ring figures, horses were not painted with Oils, but not part of the challenge.

The Russians are an army I would like to finish, so, that's where I would start, lots of cavalry, I would also do some infantry that I had already primed some years ago, along with some Spanish Hussars, Guerillas  and some Old and Young Guard.

Never doing anything in a small way, I glued ninety 15mm horses to the painting stick and primed away. These were going to be painted in oil paints. Quite a challenge in itself.

At the end of each finished mini project, I would put the prepped figure of the next project, so I was seen not to be cheating.

Through the days whilst painting the horses and waiting for them to dry, I was painting the riders and some other figures.

I failed on one of my personal goals of 200 Cavalry, but onward and upward, February, sees me heading for the land of Tolkien, Middle Earth and paint about 100 Men of Gondor, Rohan and Numenor.

No doubt there will be some 15mm Napoleonics in the mix, as I rebase my 45 year Minifig Russian army.

 From 2019

Roger Fought with his Napoleonic British for the first time, but his third actual game, with some Portuguese & Spanish Allies.

A game which ebbed and flowed on our flank, but just ebbed away on Harry and Dave's flank, as Harry rolled woeful dice all night!

Overview

Dragoons and Hussars Charge the British unite on the rise

The French right's attacks were all failing to contact and were in danger of getting cut off from the rest of the army.

The Dragoons got bounced but the Hussars destroyed a line unit outright!

The French right starting to get their battle line sorted

the French left were really putting pressure on the British line, but time was against us.

Although the French right had taken casualties, neither side had lost any Divisions or were close to breaking.
