15mm Napoleonic 1809 "Fictional Battle" using Shako II

It's 1809 and the French army are marching on Wagram in Austria. Archduke Charles send a Corp to cut off Napoleon's supply line and then attack the French army from the rear. The Austrians thought they would be attacking Westphalians and Rhine Confederation force, but came up against a Spanish Corps, which Napoleon removed from Spain due to tensions there.

The Austrians were based on the Austrian XI Corps of 1809 sent against Westphalia and Confederation of Rhine states to get in Napoleons rear and block supplies. The Austrians belong to the collection of Alan Patrick and the Spanish are from my collection (Mostly Fantassin miniatures)

The Spanish were the pick up army list from the rules. The Austrians are a big Landwehr, Grenzer and Battalion Masse.

 The Spanish Deployed

Will the Grenadiers be able to hold the center

Spanish Right Flank ready to advance if needed

The Spanish Left To move and "hinge" to the right, around the wood

The Austrians Deployed in deep Battalion Masse and hordes of Grenzers deployed in skirmish screens

Austrian Right

Austrian center

Austrian Left, very Cavalry heavy

First Clash

Austrian Cavalry try to smash through but the Spanish Horse Artillery caused many casualties during the game.
The Spanish Infantry formed square. No need for Hasty Square as they were on Defend Orders.

The Austrian push on in the center

The Artillery from both sides causing many casualties

The "Hinge"

Spanish Second Rate Cavalry Destroyed the Austrian 2R Lancers in one combat.

One Austrian unit managed to form hasty square and bounced the Spanish Dragoons charging it!

The state of play at about turn 4. Austrian Cavalry severely mauled. Austrians Stopped from charging the Spanish in the wood. Austrian Center nearly in.

The Austrian center columns got stretched and could not support their forward units, as the Spanish left moved up slowly and in good order.

The Spanish Dragoons Charged again and again failed , this time being routed from the field.

The Spanish Left destroyed two unit of Skirmishers in the wood.

The Spanish had some great volley fires in the Center, which halted the Austrians from charging home. Even the Artillery routed a unit that charged it!

The Austrian Center Left started to make headway by pushing a unit into Fallback.

At the end of the evening the game was on a knife edge. The Austrian and Spanish had lost lots of Cavalry and a few units of Infantry each. But neither side had yet to loose a Division.

Result:A very hard fought draw
